Application

What are the dates for Web Summit 2024?
The event will take place from 11-14 November, 2024.

However, there will be some volunteer shifts in the days before the event. You can view the shifts in Bloomerang Volunteer after you’ve been selected for the programme (you will receive an email reminding you).

Where is the venue?
Web Summit will be held in the Altice Arena and FIL, Rossio dos Olivais, 1900-231 Lisbon, Portugal.

What is the minimum age to apply to the Web Summit volunteer programme?
You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer at Web Summit. All volunteers must bring ID with them in order to collect their accreditation. Any person under the age of 18 will not be granted access to the programme or the event.

I need a visa to enter Portugal. Can I get your help?
Unfortunately, Web Summit cannot help you get a visa to come to Portugal, nor can we send you an invitation letter. That decision is entirely up to the government of Portugal.

What is the application process?
First, let us know of your interest in the volunteer programme here.

In the weeks leading up to the event, you will receive an email asking if you are still interested in the volunteer programme. You will need to fill out a form on the Bloomerang Volunteer platform to confirm your application.

Our volunteer management team will then begin the selection process. If you’re selected for the programme, you’ll receive another email to choose your shifts.

You must confirm your shift availability to secure your place in the Web Summit volunteer programme. You will then receive the final information about your role, including logistics for the event.

Event

How many shifts do I have to do?
We would appreciate that you choose and complete a minimum of two full-day shifts (from 6 to 12 hours). Of course, there’s no maximum number of shifts, and you can choose more if you want a more immersive volunteer experience.

To which areas/roles can I apply as a Web Summit volunteer?
There are many areas that need help at the event and a wide range of roles to which you can apply. For more information, check out the volunteer roles on the Bloomerang Volunteer platform.

Do I get any food/meal during my shifts?
Yes. Every volunteer gets a complimentary meal during their shift. There will also be light snacks available in the volunteer hub throughout the day.

Is there any travel and accommodation help for volunteers?
No. Web Summit cannot help with your travel and accommodation expenses, these are the responsibility of the individual.

Do I get free days to visit the event?
Yes. You’ll get a free day to visit the event after you complete at least one of your two (or more) shifts. Details will be provided in your general volunteer handbook.

Can I attend Night Summit?
Yes. You’re welcome to come to the Night Summit events, depending on venue capacity (any exceptions will be identified). We will have 150 wristbands each night for volunteers. Details will be provided in your general volunteer handbook.

What should I bring to Web Summit?
Here’s a list of everything you should bring to ensure you’re event-ready:
● Passport or photo ID
● Water bottle
● Mobile device with Web Summit and Bloomerang Volunteer apps installed
● Comfortable shoes
● Casual clothes
● Rain jacket (weather dependent)
● Dedication and enthusiasm

What apps should I install?
Download the Web Summit app to access your volunteer accreditation, check out the event schedules and maps, and connect with other attendees and volunteers.

Download the Bloomerang Volunteer app to view and select your shifts and receive all necessary information from the volunteer management team during the event.

How do I get my volunteer accreditation?
In order to receive your volunteer accreditation at check-in, you will need to prove that you are a Web Summit volunteer.

To do this, you must download the Web Summit app, log in using your ticket reference and access your QR code. Your ticket reference will be sent to you by email a few days before the shifts begin (after you have been selected and have signed up for your shifts).

Each volunteer QR code is unique and allows you to collect your accreditation when you check in onsite.

What is the dress code for the event?
The dress code for Web Summit volunteers is comfortable! You may be walking around the venue and standing for most of the day, so it’s important to bring comfortable clothes and shoes. A volunteer t-shirt will be provided.

For certain roles, you may be asked to bring dark clothes.

Check weather conditions and bring a warm layer under your volunteer t-shirt or a rain jacket.

Are there rules I have to follow during the event?
Yes. There are certain rules in place to ensure that the volunteer programme runs smoothly. These include:

1. After you check in to your shift, please wait at the volunteer hub. A member of staff or a volunteer lead will bring you to where you’re supposed to be. The volunteer team will make sure you are where you need to be at the right time.
2. Please stay in your assigned role. If you need to take a break, speak with your team manager.
3. You are representatives of the event, so please behave in a professional manner while on your shift.
4. Do not ask to take selfies with any speakers while you are on shift. This is strictly prohibited.
5. Please follow our volunteer social media guidelines. If you need to make a call or use your phone, please do so when you are on your break.
6. We ask that you are flexible with our team, and open to changes in your role. Live events can be unpredictable at times, and we appreciate your support. Wear your volunteer t-shirt and make sure you wear comfortable footwear.

When you signed up to volunteer at Web Summit, you agreed to our terms and conditions. Please review them as a reminder of the rules that are in place for volunteers.

After the event

Do I get a participation certificate after the event?
Yes. Once you have completed your shifts, a volunteer certificate will be sent to you in the weeks following the event.
